Flora dazzle, 2014.

My drawings allude to patterns visible in nature. The imagery oscillates between macro and micro, topographical and biological forms. Linear configurations range from gestural compositions to hard-edged geometric abstractions. They are created by ripping paper with a thumbtack repeatedly, leaving a delicate, tactile relief to the surface. It is an intuitive and meditative process.

From a distance, the work may appear as an ordinary sheet of neutral-toned paper. Upon closer investigation, forms emerge from individual marks; lines and shapes create movement within the frame.

Since I do not work from sketches, compositions are guided by an innate sense of order and balance. Over time, the tiny, textured marks accumulate, the composition builds, creating a larger gesture that is graceful and seemingly spontaneous.

This process of mark-making allows me to focus purely on gesture, line, and texture without any other variables. Sometimes, I also lightly score the surface with a blade. The paper is imbued with the my mental reflections and emotions; a representation of a vast, mysterious, and serene ethereal world.
